SMART RACING 2023 BSB SEASON REPORT

We are very proud to have sponsored the 'Smart Racing' BSB Team. The season is over, and we are excited to share the great results!

Here's what Lewis Smart thinks about the Championship :

Round 1 - Silverstone: "We started off the year at Silverstone for Round 1 but not where we wanted to be, finishing P19 and P16."

Round 2 - Donington: "We went into Round 2 at Donington, where something clicked and came we away with a P5 and P8 place finish in the races.

Round 3 - Knockhill: "We carried the momentum from the previous round into the weekend at Knockhill. I was filled with confidence, and again, I was inside the top 10 for both races."

Round 4 - Donington: "A great round at Donington WSBK, but this time being inside the top 6 for the whole weekend and managed to lead the race for the first time, which felt weird. I finished P5 in the first race and was unfortunately disqualified from the second race."

Round 5 - Snetterton: "After the disqualification in the previous round, I had to start from the back of the grid in race one even though I put a qualifying time of P6. In this race I started from P31 and finished P12, and then in Race 2, we managed to get our first podium of the season, finishing in P3; what a feeling that was!"

Round 6 - Brands Hatch: On my birthday weekend, I had a strong weekend again, but unfortunately, in the first race, the choice to have a wet front tyre was the wrong choice, and I finished in P10. A solid second race; I started in P18 and managed to finish in P4. I was thrilled with the finish."

Round 7 - Oulton: "Another good weekend for us, getting the lap times down as the weekend went on. I finished in P8 and P4 which again I was happy with."

Round 8 - Donington: "Our best weekend of the year was our first WIN in the class, with which we were over the moon. I rode well and led nearly all of the race. Then, in race 2, I finished in P5."

Smart Racing finished 6th overall in the Championship! It was a massive year for the team, and we're proud to sponsor one of our own.

6 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR MOTORCYCLE IN TOP SHAPE DURING WINTER

Winter can be a challenging season for motorcycle enthusiasts. The cold temperatures, road salt, and moisture can take a toll on your prized machine. To ensure your motorcycle remains in peak condition during the winter months, follow these six essential tips:

  1. Winterizing Fluids: Start by changing the oil and filter before winter sets in. Cold weather can thicken the oil, making it less effective. Consider using a winter-grade oil that is designed for lower temperatures. Additionally, ensure your coolant is the right mix to prevent freezing.
  2. Battery Maintenance: The cold can be hard on your motorcycle's battery. To prevent a dead battery, disconnect it and store it in a warm, dry place. Consider using a battery maintainer/optimiser to keep it charged and in good condition.
  3. Tire Inspection: Cold weather can lead to a drop in tyre pressure, affecting traction. Regularly check your tyre pressure and maintain it according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Consider using winter tyres designed to provide better grip on cold and wet surfaces.
  4. Rust Prevention: Road salt and moisture are your motorcycle's worst enemies. Before winter begins, apply a rust inhibitor to any exposed metal parts. This will help protect against corrosion. Regularly wash and dry your motorcycle to remove any salt buildup.
  5. Storage Solutions: Whenever possible, store your motorcycle in a dry, temperature-controlled environment. If indoor storage isn't an option, use a quality motorcycle cover to protect it from the elements. Elevate the motorcycle on a stand to prevent flat spots on the tires.
  6. Starting and Running the Engine: During extended periods of inactivity, it's a good idea to start your motorcycle periodically and let it run for a short time. This helps lubricate the engine components and prevents fuel system issues. Be sure to use high-quality fuel stabilizers to keep the fuel fresh.

By following these six tips, you can keep your motorcycle in excellent condition during the winter months. Proper winterization not only ensures your bike is ready to hit the road when spring arrives but also extends its overall lifespan. So, prepare your motorcycle, embrace the winter riding experience, and look forward to many more enjoyable rides in the future.

5 TIPS FOR SAFE WINTER RIDING

Winter riding can be a thrilling experience, but it also comes with its unique set of challenges and risks. To stay safe on your motorcycle during the colder months, follow these five essential tips:

  1. Prepare Your Motorcycle: Start by ensuring your motorcycle is winter-ready. Check your tyres' condition and pressure, and consider switching to winter tires for better grip on cold, wet, and potentially icy roads. Ensure all lights and signals are working correctly, and your brakes are in top shape. It's also a good idea to equip your bike with heated grips to keep your hands warm during your rides.

  2. Dress for the Weather: Proper attire is essential for winter riding. Invest in quality cold-weather gear, including thermal and waterproof riding suits, thermal gloves, and a full-face helmet with a fog-resistant visor. Layering your clothing can help you stay warm without sacrificing mobility. Don't forget to wear high-visibility gear to enhance your visibility to other road users.

  3. Adjust Your Riding Style: Winter roads can be slick, so it's crucial to adjust your riding style. Increase your following distance to give yourself more time to react to unexpected situations. Brake and accelerate gently to avoid skidding. Be mindful of shaded areas, bridges, and overpasses where ice can accumulate. Plan your routes with a focus on well-maintained, less-traveled roads to reduce the chances of encountering hazards.

  4. Beware of Reduced Visibility: Winter brings shorter daylight hours and often poor visibility due to rain, fog, or snow. Use your motorcycle's lights effectively, and consider installing auxiliary lighting to make yourself more visible. Avoid riding in heavy precipitation if possible, and be aware that other road users may have limited visibility as well.

  5. Regular Maintenance: Keep up with regular motorcycle maintenance, especially during winter. Cold weather can affect your motorcycle's battery, tyre pressures, and overall performance. Regularly check your battery's charge and maintain proper tyre pressures. It's also essential to keep your motorcycle clean and free from road salt and debris, as these can cause corrosion and damage.

Remember, winter riding can be challenging but also incredibly rewarding. Stay informed about weather conditions, and don't hesitate to postpone your ride if conditions become too hazardous. Your safety should always be the top priority. With the right gear and precautions, you can enjoy winter motorcycling while minimizing risks.
