AIR AMBULANCE CHARITY EVENT

The results of the Air Ambulance Charity event and Moto Trainer simulator competition

Between October 7th and 14th, we hosted a charity event for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. Participants donated £5 each to take part in the Moto Trainer simulator competition. More than 50 people took part, helping us raise £377.
 
Plus, we couldn't let participants go away empty-handed. Here are the winners and their best lap times:
 
1st place: Anatolijs T - 2.07 (Prize: A new Carbon Helmet and £50 in vouchers)
2nd place: Steve H - 2.08 (Prize: £50 in vouchers, generously donated to the Air Ambulance)

6 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR MOTORCYCLE IN TOP SHAPE DURING WINTER

Winter can be a challenging season for motorcycle enthusiasts. The cold temperatures, road salt, and moisture can take a toll on your prized machine. To ensure your motorcycle remains in peak condition during the winter months, follow these six essential tips:

1. Winterizing Fluids: Start by changing the oil and filter before winter sets in. Cold weather can thicken the oil, making it less effective. Consider using a winter-grade oil that is designed for lower temperatures. Additionally, ensure your coolant is the right mix to prevent freezing.
2. Battery Maintenance: The cold can be hard on your motorcycle's battery. To prevent a dead battery, disconnect it and store it in a warm, dry place. Consider using a battery maintainer/optimiser to keep it charged and in good condition.
3. Tire Inspection: Cold weather can lead to a drop in tyre pressure, affecting traction. Regularly check your tyre pressure and maintain it according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Consider using winter tyres designed to provide better grip on cold and wet surfaces.
4. Rust Prevention: Road salt and moisture are your motorcycle's worst enemies. Before winter begins, apply a rust inhibitor to any exposed metal parts. This will help protect against corrosion. Regularly wash and dry your motorcycle to remove any salt buildup.
5. Storage Solutions: Whenever possible, store your motorcycle in a dry, temperature-controlled environment. If indoor storage isn't an option, use a quality motorcycle cover to protect it from the elements. Elevate the motorcycle on a stand to prevent flat spots on the tires.
6. Starting and Running the Engine: During extended periods of inactivity, it's a good idea to start your motorcycle periodically and let it run for a short time. This helps lubricate the engine components and prevents fuel system issues. Be sure to use high-quality fuel stabilizers to keep the fuel fresh.

5 TIPS FOR SAFE WINTER RIDING

Winter riding can be a thrilling experience, but it also comes with its unique set of challenges and risks. To stay safe on your motorcycle during the colder months, follow these five essential tips:
 

1. Prepare Your Motorcycle: Start by ensuring your motorcycle is winter-ready. Check your tyres' condition and pressure, and consider switching to winter tires for better grip on cold, wet, and potentially icy roads. Ensure all lights and signals are working correctly, and your brakes are in top shape. It's also a good idea to equip your bike with heated grips to keep your hands warm during your rides.
    
2. Dress for the Weather: Proper attire is essential for winter riding. Invest in quality cold-weather gear, including thermal and waterproof riding suits, thermal gloves, and a full-face helmet with a fog-resistant visor. Layering your clothing can help you stay warm without sacrificing mobility. Don't forget to wear high-visibility gear to enhance your visibility to other road users.
    
3. Adjust Your Riding Style: Winter roads can be slick, so it's crucial to adjust your riding style. Increase your following distance to give yourself more time to react to unexpected situations. Brake and accelerate gently to avoid skidding. Be mindful of shaded areas, bridges, and overpasses where ice can accumulate. Plan your routes with a focus on well-maintained, less-traveled roads to reduce the chances of encountering hazards.
    
4. Beware of Reduced Visibility: Winter brings shorter daylight hours and often poor visibility due to rain, fog, or snow. Use your motorcycle's lights effectively, and consider installing auxiliary lighting to make yourself more visible. Avoid riding in heavy precipitation if possible, and be aware that other road users may have limited visibility as well.
    
5. Regular Maintenance: Keep up with regular motorcycle maintenance, especially during winter. Cold weather can affect your motorcycle's battery, tyre pressures, and overall performance. Regularly check your battery's charge and maintain proper tyre pressures.
